Departed this life on Sunday Evening,the 18th of October last in the 68th year of his age, William Downing Sr. after an illness of nearly two years. He was a Captain of his Company during the Revolutionary War and was at the Battle of Guilford Court House. This appeared in the Augusta Chronicle, Augusta, Ga. 11-14-1818 - there is more personal information to this article. I am not a Downing researcher, just hope this helps some one
