James Downie, Captain of the Coromandel 1820

This should be an easy one but I am having a lot of trouble finding any information on James Downie apart from his voyages to Australia and NZ with the Coromandel.

I am trying to find information about an Ann Jane Downie who was known as Jane. She was born at sea in 1820 and married a Peter Fotheringham in 1839. Family legend says her mother died in childbirth at sea and she was the daughter of the ship's captain, James Downie. I have no evidence for this. She grew up in Parramatta and the understanding was her father left her with a minister of religion before he sailed to NZ - he never returned for her.

I do know, the HMS Coromandel arrived in Port Jackson in 1820 carrying 300 male convicts, 150 for Sydney and 150 for Hobart. I have been able to find the passenger list for the convicts but not for other passengers. The ship's log states there were no deaths at sea.

Ann Jane Downie is my daughter's gggg-grandmother.

Any information would be appreciated.

Jane
