I am looking for any information on an Alexander Downie. The Scottish April 1871 census indicates that Alexander Downie, 36, cabman with 29 year old wife Catherine and two daughters, Catherine age 4 and Ann Robertson age 12 months resided 3 Brown's Close-2/3 Edinburgh.

The main resident at this address was Robert Downie, Head, Widower, 49 House painter, Born Edinburgh. His wife Catherine Galloway died 30 May 1869. They had six children Robert Downie, b1853; Matilda Downie, b1857;Maria Ann Downie, 1860; Georgina Downie, 1862. These four children showed on the 1871 census. James Downie b 1855 and Margaret b1865 did not show on the cenus and can presume they died prior to the census.

Roberts Parents were James Downie and Martha Wright m. 28 Jul 1809, Edinburgh Parish Blotter Comparison, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland. Also need info on them ie birth dates, their parents.

Alexander, in my opinion would have to be a relative to Robert, perhaps a cousin (?) to a brother of James Downie?

Scotlands People SRI shows Alex and Catherine married March 24 1866 District of Newington. Alexanders parents are shown as James Downie and Grace Somerville. Catherine McGregor parents were John Macgregor and Catherine More.

Any information on Alexander and Catherine would be appreciated. I beleive there is a family relationship here otherwise why would be be living with Robert Downie
