James Downey first showed up in LItchfield, CT in the mid 1700s. He was
born about 1740. He married Rachel Baker. They moved to Vermont and
associated with Ethan Allen. He had 12 children with Rachel, then she
died and he quickly remarried and had 12 more children. A son he had
with Rachel, Thomas Downey, married Anna Bosworth, who was descended from 2 Mayflower families. Thomas and Anna moved to Canada, then eventually got on a Mormon wagon train and came down through New York, Ohio, then Illinois, where many of the wagon train members perished from persecution, hunger, exposure, etc. Thomas and Anna had a son named Calvin C. Downey, who married Nancy Myers. Nancy was born in a castle in England. Calvin and Nancy had a son named Agustus Downey, who married Martha Lindsay. They had a son named William Downey, who married Anna Cole. They had a son named Peter Agustus Downey, who married Cordie Cole. They were my grandparents. If anyone wants extensive information on this line with other children, spouses, etc., E-Mail me at colleen.morse@state.mn.us
