Calvin C. Downey was the son of Thomas Downey and Anna Bosworth (see previous post). Calvin was born Sept. 19, 1800 in Sheldon, VT. He died before Aug. 18, 1853 in Webster, IL. He married Nancy Myers, who was born Nov. 2, 1804 in a castle in Durham, England, and died Sept. 12, 1884 in Red Oak, IA. Calvin and Nancy had 9 children: Eliza Downey, b. Jan 21, 1827 and d. Nov 28, 1901. She married Schuyler Melvin Horton. Next child was Alvah Downey, b. Sept 28, 1828 and d. Aug. 19, 1911. He married first Elizabeth Haws and then Mary Benson. Next child was Calvin R. Downey, b. July 13, 1832 and d. Jan 2, 1904. Next child Adeline Downey, b. Aug 8, 1830 and d. Jan. 6, 1912 . She married Urijah Harden Yager. Next child was Augustus Downey (my direct ancestor). He was born July 11, 1834 and died June 14, 1922. He married first Nancy Lundington and second Martha Lindsay (my direct ancestor). Next child was Sarah Downey, b. May 22, 1836 and married to Newton McElvain. Next child was Harvey Downey, born July 1, 1838 in Missouri (all the previous children were born in Canada, near Montreal, where the family moved from Vermont). The next child was Mary Downey, b. Aug. 8, 1840 in Illinois and married to Agar Turney. Next child was Lodemia Downey, b. Sept. 9, 1844 in Illinois and married to a Mr. Epperson first and a Mr. Hatswell second.
