To All Downey Researchers on Downey DNA Testing

Just wanted to post that we have had our paternal-line Downey DNA tested and posted with the Downey DNA Project. Our Downeys lived in Ohio and, according to census records, were from Ireland. We cannot get back before the 1850 Census with this family because we do not know the parents' names. Since earlier censes do not list the family member names, we cannot match the 1850 group with a 1840 Census record.

The DNA testing was not a miraculous result, but I find the results encouraging. DNA does not necessarily find matches -- in fact, I think "matches" are rare -- but DNA testing can point you in a direction for your research.

To find out more, you can do an online search for "Downey/Downie DNA Project" and then look at the Y-DNA Results. (That's the paternal line) OR... Check out Damian Downie's previous posts about the Downey/Downie DNA Project.
