Hello Downey’s, By way of introduction my name is Damian Stewart Downie and I am part of the family tree at http://members.freezone.co.uk/dunoon/ , living in Melbourne Australia. I am seeking to encourage members of the various Downie/Macildownie/MacGildownie/MacKildownie/MacEldownie, Downey/Macildowney/MacGildowney/MacKildowney/MacEldowney and Mac Gillie Domhnaich/Mac Giolla Domhnaigh families to get their DNA profiles completed (in particular the male YDNA markers and haplotree). I have to say upfront that I do not support, receive commissions or suggest any one DNA supplier. My reasoning behind the request is that there appears to be a number of different Downie/Downey (and all name variations) family trees that do not appear to intersect as far as the records go back. I recently had my DNA done with Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) https://www.familytreedna.com/ and am happy with their services (again please shop around and find the best deal for you). What is important is that regardless of which DNA Company you choose, that this information is uploaded to a public site such as YSEARCH http://www.ysearch.org (a free public service). At the present time there are two Downie’s on YSEARCH and no other sites, neither of which match. As a very basic and simple example in that Downie 1 and Downie 2 on YSEARCH do not match: Haplotrees are R1b1b2a1b5b (tested) and R1b1b2a1a (tested) DNA Markers: 13 24 14 11 11 13 12 12 12 13 14 29 17 9 10 11 11 25 15 18 30 15 16 17 17 13 23 14 10 11 14 12 12 11 13 13 29 16 9 10 11 11 25 15 19 30 15 15 15 17 Here are all the same name variants for Downey/Downie: Ysearch Database Configuration - DNA Results Comparison 7Q43W Downie 13 24 14 11 11 13 12 12 12 13 14 29 17 9 10 11 11 25 15 18 30 15 16 17 17 N9SQE Downie 13 23 14 10 11 14 12 12 11 13 13 29 16 9 10 11 11 25 15 19 30 15 15 15 17 EW6QV Downen 13 25 14 11 11 13 12 12 11 13 14 29 17 9 10 11 11 25 15 18 30 15 16 16 16 XWUVR Downer 13 23 15 11 11 12 12 12 11 13 13 29 9EHWG Downey 13 23 14 10 11 14 12 12 11 13 13 28 9ZVTG Downey 13 24 15 11 11 15 11 13 10 14 11 31 Z5MWK Downey 14 23 14 10 11 14 12 12 12 13 13 29 17 9 10 11 11 24 14 19 29 13 15 16 17 ZG5NR Downey 13 22 14 11 13 14 11 14 11 12 11 29 14 8 9 8 11 24 16 20 30 12 14 15 16 TQUDQ Downing 13 24 14 11 12 14 12 12 12 13 13 29 XME3J Downing 13 25 14 11 11 13 12 12 11 13 14 29 17 9 10 11 11 25 15 18 30 15 16 16 16 XTVR3 Downing 14 24 14 11 11 14 12 12 12 14 13 30 18 9 10 11 11 25 15 18 30 15 15 17 17 F28UP Downs 16 23 15 10 14 14 11 13 11 12 12 29 16 8 9 11 11 26 15 20 30 11 15 15 15 GC7RN Dowie 13 24 14 10 12 14 12 12 13 13 13 29 17 9 10 11 11 23 15 19 30 14 15 17 18 Distance from reference: Zero One Two Three+ While this path of investigation will never replace a good document trail, I believe that it does provide some avenues of perhaps grouping some of the Downey/Downie’s (and all name variations) families together that may assist in the genealogical process. What I can say is that the test has revealed some very interesting information regarding my genetic background. Best Regards, Damian Stewart Downie Notify Administrator about this message?
