Downey's in Clark & Greene Co. Ohio -- at a roadblock

I am at a roadblock here. I cannot seem to go back any further on Christopher Downey.

Christopher is listed in the 1850 Census of Miami Twp., Greene Co., OH, with what appears to be a sibling group! In 1850 the census did not list relationships of those living together. I cannot seem to find anything further to give confirmation of them as siblings or of their parentage.

What I do have: Christopher Downey and wife Lydia with their children William, Joseph, Rose, Ada J., Ella and Maggie are listed on the 1880 Census in Clark County, Ohio. I know the family moved to Greene County and Christopher died 20 Feb 1891, acc. to a doctor's report sent to his military records. Christopher died in Selma, Clark Co., Ohio, and is buried in the Clifton Cemetery, Miami Twp., Greene Co., Ohio. I am a direct descendent of Joseph.

By the way, according to the 1880 Census, Christopher's parents were born in Ireland. Lydia's father and mother were born in England and Maryland respectively.

Rose Downey married a Mr. Stien; Ada J. Downey married a Mr. Denny; Ella Downey married a Mr. Ross; and Maggie/Margaret Downey (verified via census records) married James E. Steele. Joseph married Cordelia Stokesbury.

Anyone have further information on Christopher and his family? I'd like to have more specifics on Christopher and on his parents.

According to Ancestry.com, most Downey families (43) living in the US in 1840 lived in Ohio. Also, acc. to same source, most Downey immigrants came to the USA in 1852.

Hope so! I look forward to hearing from someone who can find/has found further information.
Juanita
