Hi Willis. Thanks for answering so soon. I believe you are right about the murder, just not the date. I learned, from Frank, I think, that he had been pushed off a barge and drowned while they were moving to Indiana. Frank didn't give any dates. Another story: His father William got in a fight and had his ear bitten off when they lived in Surry Co. NC. So, maybe the family was a little hot tempered or something.
I don't believe that Alexander and Elizabeth were married long enough to have had four kids by 1849 anyhow. I don't have birth certificates, but have verified my dates with censuses pretty well.
