In 1910 Washington Co AL, pg 143, there is what appears to be John A or B Downey, age 71, born AL, f born GA, m born AL. His wife is Theodocia, has son, Bryan age 5. In California death index, there is a Bryan Downey, born AL, 7-19-1901 died San Mateo Co CA 6-22-1965.
In 1920 census, the widow of John is listed as Docia, with son, Bryan B, age 18. In 1900 Washington Co AL census, pg 110, John and Dosia, with son, Tony age 22 are living next door to Robert and Ida Downey. Robert's ch are Cora, Lucius, Joel and Marion. Robert is likely John's son, who is listed in 1880 census, with John and other wife.
John and Dosia have been married 4 years, she is said to have given birth 2 times, both children living. Robert and Ida also have been married 4 years, she with 2 births, 2 living. Joel and Marion are the two older children who must be by an earlier wife of Robert.
I was unable to find John Downey in 1860 or 1870 AL census, using 3 different spellings, Downey, Downy and Downie. Samuel and Rheuben Downey with families, lived in Marengo Co AL in 1870, the same co as John lived in 1880 census. That may be a connection.
