My grandfather was Daniel Russell Downey b. 14 Oct.1877 in Newcastle on Tyne. His father was Daniel Downey(1829-) m. Mary Stratford(1849-). Mary is listed in the 1891 New Shoreham census as head of house. William Downey, her brother-in-law is living with her Also in the household are Mary Stratford her mother, Victoria C. Downey (step-daughter), Ethel M. Downey (daughter), Mary S Harrison (niece) and Rose Letherbridge? (servant).
Daniel(1829-)first married Elizabeth ?. There were three children listed in 1871 census, Robert I. Downey(1865), Elizabeth J. Downey(1867) and Victoria C. Downey(1870). His second wife, Mary Stratford had two more children, Daniel Russell (1877) and Ethyl M. (1879).
William Downey and Daniel Downey were W & D Downey photographers of London and Newcastle on Tyne.
