I have lots of Downeys. Starts out with James Downey, who was born about 1740 in Scotland. He married Rachel Baker in 1760. He had 12 children with her, and when she died, he married another woman and had 12 children with her, as well. His son Thomas, also son of Rachel, married Anna Bosworth, who was descended from 2 Mayflower families. They had a son named Calvin C. Downey. Anna, Thomas and Calvin were on the Mormon wagon train that came down from Canada, through Upstate New York, to Ohio, then to Illinois, where many perished from the elements and from hostile people. Several of the Downey clan perished here, and many other of the Downey clan settled in Illinois and Iowa. My branch settled in Bushnell Illinois. Calvin had a son named Agustus, who was a cigar maker in Bushnell and a Civil War veteran. Agustus had a son named William who, when he grew up, married Anna Cole, also from Bushnell, and moved to York, NE. Her son Peter married her sister Flora's child, Cordie Cole, and they moved to St. Paul, MN. They were my grandparents. They had six children: Clifton Downey, Dolores Downey, Bernice and Bernadine Downey (twins), Francis Downey, and Phyllis Downey. I am the daughter of Bernice.
