Seth Brush Downes

Was my ggggrandfather, Seth Brush Downes a Martian from outer space??? I have been trying for seven years to find his ancestors. Seth was born in 1816 possibly in Greenwhich, CT.. He died in Greewhich, CT. in 1876. He married in Greenwhich on Sept. 24, 1835, Amy Scofield, born Nov. 23, 1814 in Greenwhich. She died Dec. 21 in Riversville, CT. These two were married by Rev. E. S. Raymond. Their children were; Timothy William ( my gggrandfather ), David Chauncey, Mary Emily, Rhoda Peck, Ruth Matilda, Sarah Melissa an Silas Smith. I know these children all married and spread out all over the place. Somewhere out there there must be some one who knowes something about this family. Seth had a much older brother named Silas Smith Downes born in 1794 who maried Lucy Ann Brush of Stanwhich, CT. It seems a funny coincidence that Seth's middle name is Brush and that he named one f his sons Silas Smith. Could it be possible that Seths older brother was his father? I have a copy of Seths death certificate and it lists his parents (in terrible doctors scrawl ) what looks like William and Amy . Its possible someone mixed up that information because I think Seth also had a brother named William and of course Seths wife was Amy. Please can anyone out there help me? I'm at my wits end; it seems as if this whole family never existed!!! thank you, Marianne Dunnell in Wingdale, N.Y.
