Our earliest DOWNES is THOMAS DOWNES, born 1612 in England, died 21 Jan. 1697, prob. in Dover, New Hampshire.
He may be the THOMAS DOWNES of Boston who came from England on "The Defence" in 1635, without a family.
Our THOMAS DOWNES was in Boston in 1652; he had land in Dover, NH in 1656. His wife's name was CATHERINE ________; she died 23 Dec 1702, also prob. in Dover, NH.
Their only children that we know of:
1) REBECCA DOWNES, born 22 April 1652 in Boston
2) ("Sergt.") THOMAS DOWNES, born 17 March 1653-4 in Boston, married: 1) MARTHA ________; 2) MARY LORD; 3) ABIGAIL (ROBERTS) HALL.
(Have Sergt. Thomas Downes' children, and a bit more on his second wife, MARY LORD, if anyone is interested. This is our line.)
3) ELIZABETH DOWNES, born 17 November 1663 in Dover, New Hampshire.
4) MARY DOWNES, birth date unknown, prob. born in Dover, NH; married 25 Nov. 1686 to JOHN COOK.
Would like to know where THOMAS DOWNES came from in England, who his parents were, brothers and sisters, etc.
