Brooklyn Standard Union March 10 1909. Dr. John Henry DOWNES, for thirty years a practicing dentist at 14 Barclay
street, Manhattan, died yesterday at his home, 153 Herkimer street as the result of a fall. on Dec. 22. He was born in Oswego in 1838. During the Civil War he enlisted in the New York Independent Light Artillery and was afterward
promotes to second lieutenant in the Eighty-eighth United States Infantry. After the war he settled in Titusville, Penn. and in 1879 came to New York City. He married Miss Helen DE BOVISE, of Brooklyn, fifteen years ago and a
year later came here to live. He was a member of the Masonic Order. Funeral services will be held tomorrow night, the Rev. Dr. N. Mcgee WATERS of Tomkins avenue Congregational Church officiating. The burial will be in Greenwood Century on Friday morning. Dr. DOWNES is survived by a widow, one son, Charles and a daughter Helene.
