Charles Downes and Marthha Mailes

Searching family of Charles Downes(abt. 1802-1888) who moved from London, England to Newfoundland(NF) before Sept. 1849. Martha Mailes(1808-1891) of Bedfordshire, resigned her position of nanny/teacher with the family of Matthew Flowers, 17 Norfolk Cres.London, to marry Charles Sept. 17, 1849 at Burin, NF.
Charles was employed as teacher and lay minister of the Methodist church at Sound Island Placentia Bay from 1849-1874, being granted permission to perform marriages by Governor Bannerman. Records show that both Charles and Martha worked as teachers and lay ministers. Both died at St. John's NF.
