My grandfather was born in NY on January 24, 1900. His name was Raymond. Kate Downes and Henry Clancy were listed as mother and father, respectively. Both of them were from Ireland. Although we do not know if they were married, a priest has suggested that a father's name was rarely included at a Catholic Hospital unless the couple was married. Kate was 20 years when my grandfather was born.

My grandfather was left in the foundling home and was sent to Texas in 1904. He officially changed his name to Downs later in life.
