Marriage certificates show Maybel McDowell and Elizabeth McDowell. 1900 Census show McDole. 1910 Census shows McDoel. Application for social security number in Jun 1937 Howard shows mothers' maiden name as McDole. Maybe some McDowell's droped the Mc to become Dowell's? My McDowell's were in Union and Delaware counties near your Knox county. My Harden's are from Knox county. Lots are burried in Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, OH. My grandfathers first wife was the above Maybel.
