Howard,
Thanks for your message. I believe that your great-grandfather James Dowell was a sister of my 3X great-grandmother Martha Ann Dowell (Pearson). From information I received from James E. Dowell (see messages in this forum), Ambrose Dowell and Patsy Ping were the parents of your James and my Martha.

Here is the message I received from James E. Dowell on my line:
"Martha Ann Dowell who md Wm Pearson was an aunt to Cassius Clay Dowell. What threw me was Patsy Ping who married Ambrose Dowell, Grandson to Ambrose Dowell of Albemarle Co., Va. I found a census record that showed Patsy Ping listed as Martha Patsy Ping and she was the mother of Martha Ann Dowell."

I would appreciate any information you might have on the ancestors of your great-grandfather James Dowell. Please post info here or contact me by e-mail.

Thanks,
bob ankenbauer
