I'm Dowell family

Dowell researchers,
I stumbled on this forum a while ago and have been trying to digest what I read. I knew if I kept digging I'd find some answers to my questions. Sorry, I can't help with DNA, and now it seems I have more questions than answers, again, sorry, but I can fill in the blanks as to where some of us went.
My grandmother was a DOWELL but she would not talk of her family. I pried some facts from my great aunt but she also said we don't talk about them. Such mystery! I'd love to know more. They are both deceased now and a cousin and I got curious. We found a book in the archives that gave us some basic details and it had things listed that were facts given me. My cousin disputes because our grandmother is not listed. (Viola DOWELL, our grandmother, was born 21DEC1905, the book was published in OCT of 1905.) It also listed a child she didn't have knowledge of and that a child died in infancy. I knew of the living child but not the infant ( I am older than she). All the facts I pried from my great Aunt were there. So I don't dispute it's our history. This book is Mikesell's History of Fulton County (1905). The state is Ohio.
My DOWELL lines, through my grandmother,
Viola, b.1905 is a daughter of Albert Dowell.
Albert, b.1853, is the son of William Dowell.
William, b.1821, is the son of John W. Dowell
And that is where my questions start. I was told John W. was born in KY and was in the war of 1812. He married a Sarah WELLS. In 2004 a jc had posted a reply to Ivan that listed John W. b. 1792 in KY and married Sarah WELLS. I jumped for joy! Found family! His father was listed as George, b. VA, died in Muskingham Co, OH, and jc listed 9 children. MY confusion. Why was John W. the only child born in KY? I don't want to dispute that jc had my John W. in the wrong line, but I don't know. I believe John W. had many children, does anyone know who they were? My family said there was a Jake,James and William that were hunters and trappers of KY that went to Fulton. Am I related to Kentucky DOWELLS or Virginia? I love tracing the family but it can get confusing! I have worked for years on all sides of my "tree", hit brick walls and hit hard enough to break some! Please feel free to email me with any tidbits. Or just Howdy! Cousin. Oh, Viola ended up in Ravenna, Portage, OH. She married Herbert DIX of NY. They had 3 daughters. The middle one, my mother, is still alive in Ravenna. Me? I inhereted the proverbial itchy feet and landed in TN by way of some time(but not jail!) in TX. I have children who love to hear me tell family stories and grand children that are just beginning. Thanks to all for listening to this story and for all who help fill in those blank spots. Your cousin, Crystal
