Shelley,, I too am looking for Dowell's in Missouri & will be glad to share what little information I have so far.
I am looking for THEODORE DOWELL = I find him in 1870 census Lincoln co. Missouri, Clark twp. with his parents, William & Elizb ( I think it short for Elizabeth ) at the age of 15 = b. abt 1855 Then in 1880 Theodore is living with a brother-in-law Joseph Lusby. Have found Lucy Lusby ( his sister) death certificate & it states that her parents are Dowell & Riddle. d:1924 = up till this point i didn't know if i was searching the right Dowells.
I have copies of death certificates of - 1: William J. Dowell,d. 1930- parents John T. Dowell & Riddle - 2: Edward Clay Dowell,d.1936 - parents John Thomas Dowell & Mary Riddle 3: John R. Dowell,d.1931 - parents John T. Dowell & Mary Ann Riddle,
Parents born in Virginia - children born in Missouri
all deaths in Lincoln co. Missouri except Lucy Lusby, she is in St. Charles co. Missouri.
I look forward to any help any one can give me.
In 1900 Theodore Dowell is a widower age 44 living in Lincoln co. Missouri. he married a Ida Cox Green sometime before 1903 had 2 children, Velma & Harry Dowell. Velma married , Harry Turner, and Harry Dowell went down with his ship in WW11, I loose Theodore in 1910, no census, no death ?? no nothing.
