I am descended from George Dowell and Glenn Ann Hunt is descended from brother John Dowell. We each had our direct line male cousins donate DNA. What we found out was that George and John were indeed brothers however we unexpectantly found thru the male line that we were not Dowells. We were descended from the male line to Martins who came from Bristol, England. The mother may be Dowell but we haven't found a way to prove it. The Va. Dowells and Martins had neighboring farms in the 1700's. The name Martin goes thru John's line. George's son James has a M. as a middle name but we haven't found out what the M. stands for - Martin maybe?
