Hi Gang, Can I jump in here? I'm a descendant of Rev. James Dowell and Wife Martha Coffey down thru George Thomas Dowell and Charlotte T. Allen. There was a James child from James and Martha. Usually you see the name listed as Lewis but it was James Lewis Dowell. I have it that "Lewis" married 1st, Jane Moore; and 2nd Martha Sharp. Does this match what you have, Pam? There is a Lewis Dowell listed in Monroe co, Ind. in the 1840 census. My Dowell branch migrated from N. C. to Monroe and Owen Co. Indiana in the 1830's. And boy, were they Baptists. James Lewis married Mary C. Sharp in Monore Co, Ind Dec. 1, 1859. That is all I have on James Lewis because I was more concerned in chasing down my own Dowell branch. I have the DNA for our side of the Dowell branch and Glenn Ann Hunt is descendant of the brother side with a 100% DNA match. Hope you can match up, too. The Dowell Website is a great place to hang out. I recommend it. Mary Beth
