Hi Elizabeth,

My great great grandfather John DOWELL(1840) IN m. to Francis with children Eliza, James, Caroline. was living next door to a Peter DOWELL in the 1870 Bates Co. MO census. I think they must be related, but I don't know how. The names listed as follows:

Dowill, Peter 50 farming NC
Louisa 5 MO
Alvin 4 MO
David 21 MO
Nancy 20 MO
Mitchell, Jimmie 52 at home NC

Is this the same Peter you are looking for? My John DOWELL says his father was born in NC in the Pottawatomie Co. OK 1900 census. Of course I was wondering if they might be father and son. The David in your census was born the same year as the David in mine.

Have you found Peter in any other Census'?
