My John Dowell (born 1764 Albermarle Co VA) moved to Burke Co NC abt. 1777. Married in 1797 in Wilkes co. Lived Wilkes, Burke and Granville Counties in NC also Cumberland KY and to Jackson Co TN by 1815 where he died after 1851. He had a brother named GEORGE and may also have had a son GEORGE by his first wife. The name James and Nancy is also connected to these Dowells. I would think there is a connection here. The Coffeys and Terrys intermarried into these Dowells (in case you run into any of those surnames). Anyway, it is a possibility there is a connection.
