One year later--it just snowed here in Denver.
I am one of the many descendants of Celia Dowell and Obediah Basham. Do you have any information about Celia Dowell's ancestry? She was born 1760 in Bedford County, VA; she married Obediah in Bedford Co. in 1782 and died in 1829 in Breckinridge Co., KY. I have seen her listed in various places as the daughter of George Dowell (b. 1728 Prince William Co., VA; d. bef. 1772 Bedford Co., VA). Supposedly his father was William Dowell(Gloucestershire, Engl. to Virginia), but have no proof of either. A George Dowell signed for Celia's marriage and a George Dowell fought in the Rev. War from VA (as did Celia's husband Obediah), but if the George who died in 1772 was her father, he could have done neither. Perhaps she had a brother George.
I would be very appreciative if you could help me expand the Dowell side of my family tree.
