Deana, I think we may have emailed in the past. After years of research I have fairly well proven that my John Dowell (born 1764 in albermarle Va died 1851 in Jackson Co Tn) just beamed down from outer space and had no parents!!! The B.F. Dowell letter has proven that he is not the child of J John and Ann Franklin Dowell. For years I had thought he just had to be but the letter from Benjamin Franklin Dowell to Draper listed where his uncle John Dowell lived and died and he could not have been my John Dowell. I do think that J John and Ann adopted or apprenticed my John's brother - George Dowell in 1771 when he was 12 yrs old but just where my John was then I don't know. I really think the father was dead and the mother likely had remarried. They likely were some kin to the other Albermarle Dowells but how I don't think I will ever find. I've been searching for them since 1965!! I really appreciate you trying to help me. Benjamin Franklin Dowell did not mention an aunt Mildred in his letter. If you need a copy of this letter I can get it to you. Thanks again.
