I wasn't able to find an exact match for Willis Dowdy in the 1860 census, the best match was from Dalton, Whitefield, GA. W.H. Dowdy 29 (1831), Mary 20 and Ed L. Dowdy 4 (1856)

Shows Willis Dowdy 40 years old [1830], Sallie (24), John (4) living in Oglethorpe GA.
1880 Census Sinston, Oglethorpe, GA.
Willis apparently died between 1870 and 1880, his wife Sallie (age 36 - born 1844 in GA) was remarried to William T. Bowling (age 27 - born 1853 in SC). In 1880, they were living in Sinston, Oglethorpe, GA with Mary Dowdy (Willis Dowdy's sister, or widow of his brother, age 52 - born 1828), John W. Dowdy (age 13) and Joseph Dowdy (age 10), both boys are listed as stepsons of William Bowling.

Other people listed as Burk Dowdy 40 (1880) son; Willie V. 28, Richard 22, Alton 23, Lew 20, Annie 17, Mattie 15, Jack 13, Minnie 10 and John 8 with a servant Mary Smith 18. Woodie Dowdy, John's son, is living in Atlanta with his wife Lois.
