I've posted a new batch of primary documents relating to William Dowdy Sr of Deep River, Chatham Co NC, who lived next door to Thomas Dowdy Sr (d. 1815). This William Dowdy Sr died about 1826 and his estate was administered by Thomas Dowdy (d. 1859). I don't know if William is the younger Thomas Dowdy's brother or possibly an uncle. However, this William Dowdy seems old and may be the person who appears in very early Orange County NC road orders with the elder Thomas Dowdy Sr. The presumed children of this William Dowdy Sr are named in an 1832 court record. This record may represent a HUGE breakthrough for many Tennessee and Kentucky Dowdys who have been struggling to connect their roots back to any Chatham NC family. Here's the transcription of the court record: 1832 May Term Court A court case of Thomas Dowdy, Administrator vs. Mary Cole and others was recorded during the May 1832 Court Term. “In this case appearing to the Satisfaction of the Court that the Defendant Richard Dowdy, George Dowdy, William Dowdy, Thomas Dowdy, John Dowdy, Joseph Dowdy, Micajah Dowdy, Joab Dowdy and his wife Elizabeth are not Inhabitants of this State. It is therefore ordered that Advertisement be made in the Raleigh Star for six weeks notifying them to appear at the next Term of this Court and plead answers as demise or the Petition will be taken for a confess as to them and heard exparte. I need your feedback to help sort this NEW info out.
