Thanks Ken for providing such an informative site!

I'm a descendant of Sandy Dowdy (he was my great-great grandfather, born around 1858). I understand that you put the info together (re: Sandy) with the help of one of my distant cousins - good job! From what I learned over the years from my grandmother (Sandy's grand-daughter), the info you have is pretty accurate.

The quest I'm on (and having trouble finding out) is regarding Sandy's PARENTS. I know Sandy's mother was named Ann (born around 1842) and she was once married to a 'Loydd Emerson' when Sandy was young. Years later though, Loydd must have died (or something) because Ann (now using the name Dowdy) is living w/her son Sandy and Sandy's wife, Louanna (my great-great grandmother).

Sandy was mulatto and so was his mother Ann (at least that's what the records show in the early years - and our family's very light skin complexion probably confirms it!). While Sandy and Louanna were married, they owned alot of land - also sold quite a bit as well. I guess they would have been deemed as being "well off" during this time. Where ot who would Sandy have inherited all this land from?? Is there any connection to Thomas Dowdy and William "Billy" Dowdy? I think there may be..

If there's anyone with info to share, I'd appreciate it! My lineage (Sandy Dowdy) can be found on Ken's site.
