Chatham Co lineages now revised

Serious Dowdy researchers have long known that problems existed with the conventional Dowdy lineages originating out of Albemarle Parish, Sussex Virginia and also in Chatham County NC. A very talented researcher, Betty Moran and I probably spent over a year of daily emails trying to reconcile several very stubborn Chatham NC documents into a more legitimate lineage. These documents, for lack of a better description, really threw a wrench into the conventional Chatham NC lineages.

One big achievement of Betty's hard work was the realization that the Dowdy family which lived around Rocky River in Chatham were distinctly different from the Dowdy family which lived around Deep River in the southern part of the county. However, those stubborn documents still couldn't be reconciled.

It is my belief that these stubborn documents may now have been reconciled and a more legitimate set of Chatham NC lineage can now be presented!

The following represent the major lineage changes proposed and presented at my website:

1. Thomas Dowdy, Sr. of Deep River married 1st Elizabeth Parsons in Sussex VA, and then 2nd Rebecca [Poe]. This solves a serious problem identifying the father of a living son William Dowdy, son of Elizabeth Parsons

2. The Deep River family is not lineally descended from the Dowdys of Rocky River who also originated out of Sussex VA. Of course, they are likely related, but my website is now creating a separate branch #40 for the Deep River Dowdys reflecting the fact that we can't determine the precise relationship.

3. The Rocky River Thomas Dowdy family largely dispersed from North Carolina. Sons Thomas (b 1759 Sussex) and George both moved to Chesterfield SC and their descendants to Lauderdale Co Alabama. Son William and John both died before 1800. And the daughters moved to Kentucky and Ohio.

This lineage revision represents a material change in the decades-old conventional wisdom. However, the revision is strictly in its infancy and is subject to your feedback and "gotchas". Please feel free to send your thoughts to me. Of course, much of the revision is not "provable", however, collateral relationships and geography has helped provide the necessary leads. And for the first time, those "stubborn" documents are apparently no longer in conflict with a set of comprehensive lineages.

Again, thanks for any help!
