I'm also reseaching this family.
My ggrandfather was John Dowdy b 1834 d 1885 in Mayfield Ky and supposedly buried in Howell County MO. He married Mary S. Linder in Mayfield, KY. Their children were: John Thompson b 1862, Millie Jane b 1852, Melvinia b 1854, Mary Kezira b 1856, Joseph William b 1864, Andrew Jackson b 1866 Albert Thomas b 1867 (my grandfather), S. Francis
b 1872(died as a infant) and James Allen b 1876.
I'm trying to ID John's father. The internet shows Joseph Dowdy b 1774. But from some research that a cousin has done we think that James Dowdy b 1771 d. 1870-80 Mayfield KY maybe his father. If Joseph is correct then I have some in there. I have a lot of info on John and Mary S (Linder) Dowdy. If any of this like your family please e-mail at shirleygroom@sbcglobal.net.
