Searching for descendants or information on Thomas Irvin Dowdy I., of Lincolnshire, England. Thomas lived from 1723-1801 and he married Sara Noble.
Thomas and Sara Noble Dowdy had five children:
1. Thomas Irvin Dowdy II., (1745-1810) married Anna Reid (1750-1795)
2. George Dowdy (c.1747-c.1760). Died young.
3. George Irvin Dowdy (1761-?) married Elizabeth, her surname is unknown.
4. Sara E. Dowdy (1765) married William Noble. William Noble was a nephew of Sara Noble Dowdy.
5. William Dowdy (1778-1880). Died young.
I descend through Thomas Irvin Dowdy II., born 1743 and died 1810. Thomas married Anna Reid who was born 1750 and died 1795. They had two children:
1. George Thomas Dowdy (c.1770-1820) George married Catherine whose maiden name is unknown to me. George traveled by ship from England to New York where he arrived with his brother Thomas Irvin Dowdy III., apparently there were relatives already in America at that time. Some had settled in New York or Virginia.
George Thomas Dowdy was a farmer same as his brother Thomas. Thomas Irvin Dowdy III., helped his brother on the farm in Virginia where the Dowdy's lived. They were the first of our family of DOWDY to arrive in America.
2. Thomas Irvin Dowdy III. (1772) married Elizabeth Shadtsforth. Thomas lived with his brother George on their property in Virginia. Family records show that Thomas Irvin and Elizabeth Shadtsforth Dowdy III., had three children:
1. Elizabeth Ann Dowdy married Martin Shipley.
2. Thomas Dowdy married an Elizabeth Merchant/Murchant her surname can be spelled various ways.
3. Catherine Dowdy not enough information on Catherine.
I descend through George Thomas Dowdy who owned property in Virginia and was a farmer. George died about 1820. Any information on the New York or Virginian Dowdy's would be great email me at AJDowdy1@hotmail.com, thanks.
