I agree that it looks like Samuel Dowdall and his wife Mary could be parents for William Dowdall. However, I have no information about him that would prove or disprove this. I did find a copy of his obituary but it just says born in Bathurst. I need to check my records and see what else I have, I'm not sure if I have his death record or not. I have had the same problem with the RC / CE religion flip, it may be a mistake in carrying a ditto to far. I do think that he was CE. I'm not sure of Samuel's actual birthplace, it could be Ireland. I only know that he was part of a British Regiment. So possible places to check: the Anglican Diocese records in Kingston for the marriage as there doesn't appear to be anyhting in Ottawa; letters of indenture, William was a shoe maker and must have apprenticed; and last this is only good if your cousin is a Dowdall and a direct descendant of William Dowdall, a Y-DNA test against another direct male descendant of Samuel Dowdall. I'm sorry I can't be more help. William is one of those leads I'm hoping to resolve one day. At the moment I am still trying to find information on my direct lines although I haven't done much research in the last year or two. Janet Notify Administrator about this message?
