Hi Colm, I saw your post before, but all this time I thought you were another Colm who has been a tremendous help to Barbara C. and her Dowdall family research. If you email me off list I can scan a 1932 letter from Mary Elizabeth Dowdall Moran. The letter is full of wonderful Dowdall history. Mary Elizabeth was the eldest of 8 children; seven girls and one boy. Her brother married and had nine children; five girls & four boys. Mary and George ( thank you for his name, Mary Elizabeth did not put very many first names in he letter) had two boys. In 1932 her youngest was 18 years old and a salesman in a boot shop. In 1932 she lived at 12 Pembroke Cottages. The letter was written to a Harry Dowdall in the Bay Area of California. Harry Dowdall was the son of Mary's, father's Grand Uncle Richard, This Richard was named after his father's brother Sir Richard of Athlumney. I am in contact with one of your cousins in the Bay Area and Barbara C. Barbara is another close cousin. Do you live in Ireland? Last summer Barbara C. was in Ireland and attempted to locate your branch of the family. In fact I just wrote a letter to the present resident of 12 Pembroke Cottage and also contacted Gilbert Library in Dublin to get copies of the various Dublin City Directories to try and locate Mary Elizabeth's family. You have no idea how wonderful it is to make contact with one of Mary's family. In 2002 my daughter and I visited Athlumney Castle as well as many other Dowdall homes in Counties Louth, Meath and Westmeath. Could you please email me at: conaught2@charter.net Beannachtai, Margaret Kristich Notify Administrator about this message?
