Dear All, I am hoping this message will get to Margaret Kristich in particular. When I contact Margaret by her email address my message keeps bouncing back. Margaret (and others), I live in Downpatrick in Co Down, N Ireland and am writing an article for a local history journal called the Lecale Review (Barony of Lecale). My subject is the history of 'Oakley Park' which is a demesne in Ballydargan townland near Downpatrick. A Dowdall family owned Ballydargan possibly from as early as 1334 and up to about 1670. My sources state that after forfeiting the Ballydargan land c1670 a John Dowdall returned to live in Desert(?) in Co Louth where the family held land in Glaspistol, Nicholstown etc.. Margaret, you mention (on another forum) possessing a book called the 'Dowdall Deeds'. Is there any mention in it of Dowdalls and Ballydargan in County Down? The Dowdall names I have are (all living at or at least owning Ballydargan): 1334 Richard, son of Ralph (Dowdall) - 'a Free Tenant of the Earl of Ulster in Lecale'. 1547 Edward Dowdall c1600 James FitzThomas Dowdall (died on either 30th April or 1st March 1619). 1619 John Dowdall, son of the above James FitzThomas, succeeded to his father's land. This John was 18 years old in 1619. Any information you can give me on the above Dowdalls or the Co Louth branch would be much appreciated. If you are interested I can give you more details of 'my Dowdalls' and sources. Billy. Notify Administrator about this message?
