Try to access early Canadian Census records on-line. There were 2 Dowdall families at Perth, 1 Protestant, Samuel & Mary, 1 Catholic Patrick and Judith?. Samuel came in 1810 (from England)and recieved land grant for Military service in Perth Military Settlement, his wife and children and born here. Patrick & his wife with 1 son under 7 came on the Thomas from Ireland and recieved land grant 19 July 1819, as an emmigrant in same settlement. Source - Perth Military Settlement Book 1816 - 1822. Samuel pg. 17, Patrick pg. 97
I have never tried to track Patrick's descendants as my relationship is to Samuel, but Patrick is mentioned in the early diaries of the Catholic Priest for Perth. As well I believe his death was written up in the Perth Courier or Bathurst Chronicle as he was quite old at the time of his death and he was one of the last of the original Land Grant Settlers living to that time. Another source would be Perth - St John's Catholic Parish records as at least one of Samuel's sons (Richard) converted to Catholicism at marriage.
Good luck from Janet Dowdall
