If the name was pronounced as in the word Doe, there may be no connection to any Dow family. Usual Dow variants are Doue, Dove, Dove and Dowe. If you do find a Dow connection, I'd love to know about it, since I haven't seen the Dough spelling attributed to either Doe or Dow families, and would like to know where it belongs.
