Dear Nicola,

DOW is a Scottish family name, as you may already know (meaning dove - like the family coat of arms)..represented by Davidson and Buchanan clans.

However, as early as 1495 some (my descendants, for example) were living in England (Co Norfolk), and in 1639 emigrated to America..the first Dow family to do so.

It's believed they were religious puritans or something similar. So if you find any link between England and Scotland..the above might be of some help.
