Hope the following helps. According to The Book of Dow -
In the History of Hampton NH by the late Joseph Dow, is stated that Henry Dow was descended from John Dow of Tylner, Norfolk Co., whose will was probated July 23, 1561. In making this erroneous statement, he was grossly imposed upon by an English genealogist who later confesssed he took a chance. He took Joseph's money and kept it. This will was inspectd afterward and found to be that of a John Downet! Saw yr 1561 and thought it might have meaning! Book says no one has found ancestors of Thomas, in spite of intensive searching. Not related to Henry Dow who came to Watertown MA in 1637.
Dowife sounds to me like they didn't know Margaret's last name and referred to her as wife of a Dow?
