The William E Smith age 5 1880 US/NJ Census in your post is my grandfather. The only info I have on his grandparents (parents of Charles SMITH, 2nd.) are Charles Smith & spouse Maria from PA(no dates, suspected Philadelphia location from my father, Earle Smith)

Middlesex County:
John DOW, b. ca 1855, m. Lydia A. SMITH b.29 Apr. 1859
Best guess for marriage loc. is Methodist Church,
Milltown, NJ. Child: Charles m. Maud Mackey b Dec 14,
1886. Daughter: Charlotte Dow m. Mr. BARBER.

Somerset County:
Jane Dow b.May 1806 in Bedminster, NJ m. Aug 08, 1832 Martin
RUCKMAN b. Oct 27, 1811, Warren, NJ, d. May 12, 1896,
both living 1850 New Providence, NJ, Burried Liberty Corners, NJ

Note: I suspect Jane Dow b. 1806 might be a sister or otherwise related to Folkert P. Dow. Do you have any info on this?
