I am seeking more information on the George Dow (Sr) from Scotland, who married Harriet ?? (from England) in 1884 approx. probably in New York or New Jersey; and had a son George about 1885.
In the 1900 USA Census, George Sr is listed as a Confectioner, born May 1861 Scotland, arrived in the USA in 1882, married 1884, George Jr born 1885.
Harriet is listed as being born 1862 England.
All of the above is from that 1900 USA Census on the LDS Family Search site.
I suspect that George Sr above is my great-uncle, a baker to trade in Scotland, who "disappeared" from Scotland to the USA around the 1880s; but to date I have not found any direct reference to his Migration on Castle Garden (too early for Ellis Island).
The last definite record of my great-uncle George is in the 1881 British Census, living in Edinburgh, employed as a Baker. "My" George was also born in May 1861 (Official Birth Record, Registrar General of Scotland).
Part of the family lore is that "my" George's son, George Jr, was a musician in New York night-clubs etc; and visited Edinburgh in the early 1900s. Also that his (GD jr) wife visited Edinburgh in the late 1920s, with two? daughters.
Another part of that lore is that George Jr's family were generally involved with the stage and, later, films.
However, I have nothing definite about such aspects.
I would appreciate any help such as the Marriage record/s, later Census entries, Naturalisation, Military Service, Deaths etc.
