Stephen Dow was born 1801 according to the 1850 census, and married Betsey (perhaps Elizabeth) Phipps 15 Sep 1834. The census says he was a laborer, and since the couple's residence was between two farming families, I assume he was a farmhand.
They had three children: Samuel, born 1836; Elizabeth, born 1839 and eventually married to an Andrew Harriman; and, Sarah, born 1841 and evenutally married to a George Kent. Betsey died in 1842, and Stephen subsequently married an Elizabeth somebody or other.
I haven't followed up on any of these people since they're getting a bit far afield from my Phipps line. (Betsey was a daughter of my 3x greatgrandfather.)Just thought I'd pass the info along in case somebody is searching for them.
