Frederick Neal Dow b. 23 Dec 1840 was a man prominent in Portland ME political and social life, was president of Casco National Bank. His father was Neal Dow, a Brig. Gen USA 1861 and presidential candidate 1880. He was also mayor of Portland.

Frederick had a sister Emma Maynard Dow b. 5 Apr 1836. She married William Edward Gould.Emma had a daughter Alice b. in 1860, but her surname would have been Gould, not Dow.

A George Winthrop Dow was b. 1827 in Maine. He was son of Abraham Dow (Abraham was mentioned in the autobiography of Gen Neal Dow as visiting him in Boston and thrashing a person who attempted to impose upon him as a greenhorn). George (and his brothers) went west in youth - and he was a wander. Went to CA during gold rush, lived in Kansas, returned to ME, and then lived in several states in the south. He was married 3 times. A daughter by first wife was Alice Adeline b. 1859, died 1876.

This is based on The Book of Dow.
