Centenarian Dead
Sudden Taking Off of Mrs. Maria Robinson of Bridgewater
Bridgewater, Jan, 17 Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock occurred the death of Mrs. Maria Robinson, Bridgewater centenarian, at her late residence in this village. The sickness previous to her death was of short duration, only a few hours so that her passing was sudden and a complete surprise to the whole community . Only the day before she was out sweeping the snow off the porch and earlier in the week road to North Bridgewater to be present at the birth celebration of Mrs. Eunice Parkinson, an aged and intimate friend.
Maria Brown Robinson was born in Brookfield, Nov. 4, 1809. When nine years old her parents moved to Mayflower, three miles from Richfield Springs . At the age of 16 years Mrs. Robinson united with the Baptist Church at Richfield, where she was a member at the time of her death. March 22, 1828 she married Joseph Robinson. To them seven children were born, six sons and one daughter. In 1872 they retired from farming and removed to their hom, "Rest Knoll" near Richfield Springs. The happiness there was marred by the death of Mr. Robinson who passed away in his 87th year on the eve of his 59th wedding anniversary. For the past few years Mrs. Robinson has made her home here in the care of her daughter Miss Lucy Robison, who sought to do all in her power to make pleasant the declining years of her aged mother.
Three sons and a daughter survive, John G. Robinson of Richfield Springs. George Robinson of Ilion, Albert Robinson of Richfield, Miss Lucy Robinson of Bridgewater, besides a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren, The funeral service will be held at her late residence Tuesday afternooon at 1:30 with interment at Moniticello.
Mrs Robinson's maternal frandfater Benjamin Dow and her paternal grandfather Asa Brown served in the Revolutionary War, and participated in several engagements. Through her peternal grandmother Deborah Grant , she was a member of the National Grant Family Association.
