Oliver Parker Dow was in no way related to Herbert H. Dow, founder of Dow Chemical Company. Herbert Henry Dow was born in Belleville, Ontario, Canada 26 Feb 1866. He received his formal training from Case School of Applied Science and graduated in 1888 with a B.S. degree. He founded Dow Chemical Company in Midland Michigan in 1897 after 2 previous attempts to form companies failed (one company failed and the second one took control from him and fired him). He was the son of Joseph Henry Dow b. in 1836 and descended from Henry Dow who came to Watertown MA in 1637.

Oliver Parker Dow was b. in 1823! That certainly makes it impossible for him to be descended from Herbert or even from Joseph, Herbert's father!

Oliver is descended from a totally different Dow family - Thomas Dow of Newbury MA in 1639 - not related to Henry of Watertown. Oliver did have a daughter Lura J. Dow b. 1 Jume 1869. Oliver was the son of Thayer Dow and Rachel Lawrence and was b. in Hudson NH.The family later moved to NY and then to Wisconsin.
