Seeking parents of Caroline Sharp, of Adolphustown, who married 1> Thomas Douglas[s] 2nd Orrin Ranney.
The Douglasses had three daughters; Hannah, Priscilla and Alida. Believe Caroline had a sister Alida and Cynthia/Synthe.
The Ranneys had at least four children including Thomas, and Cynthia, who m. 1867 Samuel Blakely of Hallowell, Ont.
Particularly interested in Thomas Douglas' origins. He first appears in Adolphustown abt 1798, and each following year in the Inhabitants Tax list until his death in 1809. Caroline Douglas (his widow) married Orrin Ranney in either 1810 or 1815, both marriages are recorded. This Thomas Douglas may have been one in the same as the TD who was from Pownal, Vermont, served in Rev, was held prisoner at Halifax Nova Scotia, and upon return family farm discovered his wife (Eleanor Seeley) had remarried. TD left for Prescott, Canada which is abt 75 east of Adolphustown, where many of his Quaker friends of Dutchess County, NY went to settle. A man without a country, a home, a family, and a job. What could he do? He went to Canada for land being doled out by Government who in turn would benefit from the taxation!
