Jos. Doughty/ Psyche Wiltsie, BeekmanNY
For almost 25 years I lived in a house on Route 216 (at the corner of Lime Ridge Road)in Town of Beekman built by Joseph Doughty and Psyche Wiltsie.
While living there I researched this family, who built the house in the early 1750's. They had 12 children. The first born in early 1750's and the last some 40 years later.William inherited the house. In his father's will it states that Psyche is to have the 2 rooms on the east side of the hall, her fires are to be built for her, and she also has access to to the celler where grain is to be put for her. She lived to be well in her 90's.
I felt as if I knew them all, although no ghosts that I am aware of.
For all you descendants out there, it was a magnificent old county farmhouse that I loved and raised my children in.Though it looks rather small on the outside, it rambles on and on.Was a small log cabin to start, then added to the right and left and later raised to two stories.Huge beams, are now exposed.I tended it lovingly, and cried when I left. After 250 years it still stands proud.
