Ken, I am a descendant of the "other" Doughty family that lived in Greenwich. William Doughty (Umbrella Maker) was my great-great-great grandfather. His son John Doughty (born 15-Sep-1821) had at least 2 children, John William Doughty (born abt. 1845) and Elizabeth Mary Ann Doughty (born abt. 1852). Elizabeth married my great Grandfather Carl Emmanuel Erickson 03-Aug-1870 in Islington. John Doughty and his brother George were both "Brass Turners" in their early working lives. John subsequently became an "Engine Fitter", living close to the Regent's Canal in London, at the rear of King's Cross Station. He died tragically in an accident aboard ship at Cottons Wharf on 23-Sep-1875 when a boiler plug gave way and he was scalded. His widow Caroline Matilda Norman then went to live with Carl Emmanuel Erickson and his family in Limehouse. Carl had two children - John Charles Erickson (born 13-Sep-1871) and Lydia Josephine Erickson (born 14-Jan-1878). Lydia recalled visiting relatives as a child, in the Shooter's Hill area. It would be interesting if there is an early connection between these two Doughty families. I have more info if you wish to eMail me off list (david@erickson.demon.co.uk). Kindest regards, David Erickson.
