Hannah Maria Doughty Littell of NY
Thanks to the vigilance of a Doughty researcher going through the Brooklyn Eagle online from April 29, 1901:
Obituary Mrs. John Littell
"Mrs. John Littell died this morning at her home, 724 Lexington avenue, in the 70th year of her age. She was born in one of the cottages that lined Grand street, New York, City, during the year 1822. She was the daughter of William Doughty, who was connected with the Allaire Iron Works for fifty-five years.
As a very small child the deceased became a pupil of old No. 4 Public School and remained as a pupil of this school until, as the first pupil in the New York City schools, she was appointed a teacher in the same school. At the time of her marriage to John Littell she was the principal of that school.
She leaves the following sons and daughters: Dr. John Vincent Littell of Lafayette, Ind; Mrs. Marcus Petersen of Buffalo, NY.; Marcus W. Littell, William D. Littell, Geroge F. Littell and Mrs. J. Palmer, all of this city. The interment will be in the family plot at Greenwood."
If this Hannah Maria Doughty Littell dovetails into one of the Doughty listers, I would love to hear from you. Her death certificate lists her mother as Catherine Schuyler.
Thanks
Sue
